Nestled high above the Nevada desert rests an untapped deposit of gem quality rock. A timeless stone lying in wait, treasured by mankind for ages. Nevada's most elusive and mysterious rock has finally been unearthed and is ready to be appreciated by all in this new millennium. Jade has been valued as the purest and most divine of natural treasures by the Chinese for 5000 years. Titled "The Stone of Heaven", it has been the center of cultures and religions around the world. Olmec and Mayan civilizations of Central America greatly valued Jade, often endowing it with mystical power. Nevada's nephrite jade is a member of the amphibole family of minerals and chemically is a calcium magnesium iron silicate. It has a fibrous to laminar habit, a hardness that varies between 5 and 7 on Moh's scale, and a density of over 3. The chatoyancy, or flashing light character, is attributed to the fibers of Actinolite and Tremolite. The stone has a variety of colors that change with the intensity or angle of light that hits the fibers. Ghostly figures often appear and vanish within the stone, thus the name "Ghost Jade". Presently, we have blocked out a large supply of chatoyant Ghost Jade and have made it available to stone carvers and lapidaries. A price list of rough, semi-rough and slabbed material is available upon request as well as an assortment of finished products.
