General Info

The Cripple Creek area is one of the richest gold districts in North America. It can be accessed via State Route 67. Museums and an underground mine tour are located here. The old rival town of Victor is to the southeast.

Minerals

Bastnäsite-(Ce) - Translucent amber crystals to 2.5 cm were found below Fairview which is a mile east of Cripple Creek.

Calaverite - Small crystals of this telluride can be found on the mine dumps in this area.

Fluorite - Purple color.

Sylvanite - Small crystals of this telluride can be found on the mine dumps in this area.

Turquoise - Excellent quality and "some of it contains limonite intergrown with thin layers of native gold", says Murphy and Modreski (2002).
