General Info

Around 600 mines, from small prospects to major producers, are found in the Idaho Springs-Georgetown-Silver Plume areas of Clear Creek county. There are mine tours and museums in Idaho Springs, and the Colorado School of Mines has a research/rescue facility at the Edgar Mine.

Minerals

Argentite - A sulfide ore.

Chalcopyrite - A sulfide ore.

Galena - A sulfide ore.

Pyrite - A sulfide ore. Large crystals of pyrite and chalcopyrite, associated with quartz and siderite, were found at the old Alice Mine near Idaho Springs.

Quartz - Often associated with the metal sulfide ore minerals.

Sphalerite - A sulfide ore.

The old Argo Mill in Idaho Springs. Much of the ore that was mined in the area was brought to this site for milling in the old days.
