This is another "before cleaning" picture of a different large calcite cluster specimen. Specimen is approximately 7 inches across. The black coating is probably manganese oxide. This is an "after cleaning" picture of the previous calcite cluster specimen. Crystal habit is discoidal rhombohedral.


Specimen of calcite that is being packed up. This one is basically clean, except for some dirt/mud. Here's a fossil fish tail (Xiphactinus?) that Bob found on the dumps from the Niobrara Formation. Notice the vertabrae in the middle and top of the photo. (Click the photo for detailed pictures.) Unfortunately, we couldn't find the "body" of the fish.
A US quarter is used for scale.
